Science Fiction Double Feature

In honor of the next top secret Retro-View, I had the sad pleasure of what will probably be the last time I get to see a drive-in movie at the West Wind Sacramento Six, which is due to be torn down so the city will have another multi-plex, which it desperately needs. In good company, I saw HANCOCK, which I thought was Will Smith’s most enjoyable performance and WALL-E, which was just pure eye and soul candy. It was also cool during the space scenes as the screen vanished to merge with the actual night sky. A good metaphor for the last remaining Sacramento drive-in. Sigh.
And since I was “tagged” by Daniel G. over at Getafilm to continue on with The 12 Movie Meme started by Lazy Eye Theatre. Basically, in honor of the wonderful New Beverly Cinema, you chose a theme and 12 films for six nights of programming. Well, he said cracking his knuckles, this is my specialty. So my program is “Genre Busters,” films that subvert or transcend their nature.
MONDAY – TUESDAY: ECO-HORROR
NO BLADE OF GRASS (1970)
PROPHECY (1978)
WEDS – THURSDAY: HARDCORE
OPEN SEASON (1974)
THE PENTHOUSE (1967)
FRIDAY – SATURDAY: TRIPPING
SKIDOO (1968)
PSYCH-OUT (1968)
SUNDAY – MONDAY: SO FUNNY IT HURTS
SHAKES THE CLOWN (1991)
HAPPY GILMORE (1995)
TUESDAY – WEDS: KEEP ON TRUCKIN’
SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT (1977)
CONVOY (1976)
THURSDAY – FRIDAY: THE DEAD SHALL RISE

And here’s a list of lucky blogs I’m “tagging” to put up their own programming schedule:

Get more out of life – go out to a movie!

Who are YOU gonna tag, big boy…?
Was that subtle?

Oh you’re on the list, yes.

Christian! Are you in Sac? You totally need to call me (send email to john@rome.ro) so we can hook up.
BTW, i’m now addicted to your blog. So…… you better keep blogging.
PROPHECY WAS AWESOME!!!!!! I still remember going to see it with Doug Clark and he got so scared that he left the theatre and waited for me to come out after the movie ended. Fucken baby.

Shit dude, I was just there! Dammit.
I’m glad you’re hooked. This is payment for hooking me and Andy on Wolfenstein.
The first one is always free…
PROPHECY rawks. It’s still a fun strange monster movie with hilarious scenes. Remember the kid running in his sleeping bag and getting tossed at a rock, followed by exploding feathers? I saw that on SNL when it came out and thought it was a fake ad!

Nice! Glad you took it head-on.
Damn – these are awesome, and great that you got Skidoo in there. I’d for sure show up for that double. Eco-Horror is a lovely little genre, (most recently resurrected by Shyamalan. Idiot.), and just the poster for Prophecy looks pretty hilarious – and amazing, especially with your description.
I’m pretty sure this lineup, especially the weekend selections, would kill at the New Beverly. You should probably send this over to them…

I too did the 12 Movies Meme, and have yet to read about anyone else’s fictitious film festival and not like it. Yours rocks too.
